Seasonal Guide

Pest control changes with the Northwest Ohio calendar

The right treatment depends on what pests are active, where they live, and when they are trying to move inside. This guide shows what Kyle watches for through the year.

Spring

Ants, early spiders, and the first exterior pressure

Spring is when ants start showing up in kitchens, bathrooms, sill plates, and older framing. A spring inspection also catches exterior gaps and moisture issues before summer pressure builds.

Common pressure:

Carpenter ants, Pavement ants, Spiders, Occasional invaders

  • Identify ant species before treatment
  • Inspect foundation, sill, and entry points
  • Build an exterior barrier before activity peaks

Summer

Mosquitoes, ticks, wasps, cicada killers, and heavy yard pressure

Warm weather shifts the work outdoors. Shaded foliage, standing water, wooded edges, eaves, ground nests, and cicada killer burrows are the areas that matter most for summer comfort and safety.

Common pressure:

Mosquitoes, Ticks, Wasps, Hornets, Yellow jackets, Cicada killers

  • Treat mosquito resting areas, not just open lawn
  • Focus tick treatment along edges and wildlife travel routes
  • Identify and treat wasp, hornet, yellow jacket, or cicada killer activity safely

Fall

Rodents, stink bugs, and overwintering pests

Fall is exclusion season. As fields empty and temperatures drop, rodents and overwintering insects look for gaps around doors, siding, vents, garages, and utility penetrations.

Common pressure:

Mice, Rats, Stink bugs, Asian lady beetles, Boxelder bugs

  • Seal gaps before trapping or baiting
  • Treat exterior entry zones before stink bugs move inside
  • Check garages, crawlspaces, basements, and attic access

Winter

Indoor pests, stored-product pests, and follow-up work

Winter work is often quieter but more targeted. It is the right time to solve indoor activity, tighten exclusion, and prepare commercial properties before spring pest pressure returns.

Common pressure:

Mice, Roaches, Bed bugs, Carpet beetles, Stored-product pests

  • Track indoor activity to the source
  • Treat cracks, voids, storage areas, and utility lines
  • Plan spring prevention for recurring commercial accounts
